After our incredible Musical Theatre Summer Schools in 2019 and 2020, we have decided to introduce an Intensive purely for actors! Keep scrolling to find out what our young performers will be getting up to.
“My heart is very full tonight!!!! I literally adore what I do and the people I have the pleasure to do it with so so so much. @northernprepsquad you have actually changed my life big time and I’m forever grateful!!!!”
Why Audition Prep/Skill based and not a show?
We at Northern Prep Squad pride ourselves on creating an encouraging atmosphere for our young performers whilst providing a realistic experience just like in our Workshops. Auditions can be a scary time for even the most seasoned professionals and often we see the young performers work tirelessly towards their shows and exams all year round yet there is not a lot of focus on auditions. This Summer Intensive aims to improve audition knowledge and etiquette as well as boost confidence, giving students the tools they need for the industry whilst having a lot of fun. We love to nudge our Students out of their comfort zones as well as improve and hone in on the skills they already have.
If you are looking for a career in the performing arts/acting, or just want to feel more confident in auditions/your skill set, this Summer Intensive is for you. We have a limit of only 25 places for this course as we want to provide as much individual contact time as possible.
“thankyou for an incredible week @northernprepsquad! I met so many amazing people and learnt so so much”
What you will receive?
This Summer intensive is designed to emulate the classes that would receive when attending a full time drama school. Students will attend classes including, Improve, script analysis, acting for stage, acting for film & TV, Song & Dance for actors, etiquette, CV work and more. This Summer Intensive is designed to not only hone in on your craft but also develop understanding of the industry in order to feel more confident and driven to succeed in this already difficult industry.
West End Masterclass – Professional yet to be announced.
Our attendees will also get to work with a industry professional in one of our Private NPS masterclasses. This not only provides an opportunity for the attendees to work with a professional but also learn material from a certain play/show and get an insight into what auditions/rehearsals are really like. The attendees will also have chance to ask the performers anything they would like in a Q&A session.
“My girls had a wonderful experience at the recent NP summer squad. It was intense but fun! They literally loved every day and learnt so much! I love the new headshots and can’t wait to receive the showreel. Thank you so much”
As part of the price you will also receive 2 contrasting headshots which are a necessity for any performer. These are vital when submitting yourself for jobs along with your CV in order to put a face to your name/character you are up for. There is a huge difference between a headshot and just a picture of your face which we will discuss and explore during our time together. So why 2? Often a performer can portray many different characters, however you can not always show that in one picture. We will discuss with everyone their individual casting and tailor the two shots accordingly in order to gain the most versatility when applying for roles. These will be sent electronically for your personally use after the Summer School.
As well as headshots a lot of casting is now done online or in the form of self tapes especially with the recent pandemic. Sometimes thousands of people apply for roles and something that can often help you get into the audition room is a showreel. This is a professionally shot scene which will show your young performer acting along side someone else. This is extremely important to see as a casting director that a young performer can act but also react to another actor. Each scene will be professionally shot and edited and sent to you after the Summer School to use on Spotlight or to apply for jobs. Please appreciate that editing takes a long time and we are wanting the highest quality for you. All scenes will be written specifically and chosen on the first day based on the individuals casting.
On the last day we hold some mock auditions with a panel and special guest professional who is yet to be announced. Just like in all our Audition Workshops we will also provide you with written feedback of elements that we noticed about your performance on the mock audition day (Friday). This is not something that casting directors get the time to do but we at NPS want you to grow and feel more confident in the room therefore, we feel feedback is essential.
15% off an NPS Event
After attending the intensive week you will receive a 15% off code valid for 3 months which you can use to any of our upcoming events in order to further your education.
“All be it exhausting, it was really enjoyable and I look forward to doing it again next year hopefully.”
How the week will work.
-Each day will include sessions in all areas of Acting with Jourdan, Jess and a guest teacher. Throughout the week we will be focusing on improv, script work, acting for stage and screen, singing and dance for actors, audition technique, etiquette plus much more.
-There will be opportunities for the attendees to work as an ensemble as well as individually on new repertoire and current/ongoing work that they wish to bring along.
-One day will be dedicated to Headshots which we will brief attendees on what to wear and casting type. For those who attended last years Summer intensive we will look at casting changes in order to update your headshots. Whilst your young performer is not being filmed, they will be able to continue in the usual classes.
-One day will include a masterclass with a professional from a West End show/play which will be integrated into that days timetable.
-Filming takes a lot longer than you would imagine so we will be dedicating one full day to filming. Whilst your young performer is not filming they will be able to continue in the usual classes.
-This is all building up to our Mock Audition Day on the Friday where we will be holding a mock stage & screen audition. This is nothing to be worried about, it is simply an opportunity for students to put into practise what they have learnt throughout the week and give them the experience of a professional audition. A panel will be there on the day made up of Jourdan, Jess and a special guest who will all be providing feedback for each individual.
“Fantastic Summer School. Brilliant communication from start to finish. Well planned week not sure how you fitted it all in. Alana has enjoyed every minute and learnt so much. Jourdan and Jess you are stars, pushing the kids out of their comfort zone while still ensuring they have fun is a real skill ❤️❤️”
